1975 / Warner Bros. / 183 minutes / Directed by: Stanley Kubrick
Saturday, September 28th - 7:30PM Aero Theatre
While there are other Stanley Kubrick films that tend to get a lot more attention such as THE SHINING, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE and 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, BARRY LYNDON is a movie that should not be overlooked. The Academy Award winning cinematography by John Alcott makes almost every interior shot - the majority of which were lit only by candle-light - appear as if they are paintings with the figures alive and moving within them.
Kubrick’s legendary meticulousness is vividly on display here in a film that makes you feel as though you are watching 18th century events filmed live instead of a motion picture recreation.
Ryan O’Neal is Barry Lyndon, an Irish rogue who sets out to become a wealthy nobleman. After getting involved with not one but two armies, Barry seduces and lies his way up the social ladder.
The film also won Oscars for best Art Direction-Set Direction, Costume Design and for Leonard Rosenman’s score adaptation (utilizing period music placed it in that category over original score which went to John Williams for JAWS).
Seeing BARRY LYNDON projected is an cinematic experience you will never forget.
The screening format will be DCP.
